Our Triggers

(*)(*) For us, terms like "meets threshold," "safeguarding," and "child protection" evoke strong feelings related to my past experiences. These phrases are reminders of difficult moments that I have encountered, and they often bring a flood of emotions tied to those times. The phrase "significantly at risk of harming" especially resonates, as it brings back memories I would rather forget. Carrie, it would be any sound that would mimic the sound of police sirens. It serves as a painful reminder of the challenges I faced, making it harder to engage in discussions around these topics.

One particular trigger that continues to affect me is the notion of being assessed or scrutinised in relation to my past. The weight of those experiences can be overwhelming, causing me to feel vulnerable and anxious in situations that involve these discussions. My hope is that within this support group, we can create a safe space where we can address these triggers together, helping one another to process our feelings and find healing.

We understand that everyone's journey is unique, and the past can sometimes evoke challenging memories. That's why within our contact form, we have intentionally included a section for you to outline any 'triggers' you may have. This allows us to tailor our approach and ensure that we provide you with the best possible support without inadvertently bringing those old memories to the surface. Your well-being is our top priority, and we’re here to help you navigate your experiences with care and understanding.

How Has This Experience Transformed You?

Defend Your Sanctuary: Banish Triggers!

This experience will forever change you, no matter the outcome. For every family, damage control can leave scars that are uniquely different for each individual, with the healing process varying significantly in timeframe. There is no set period for recovery, and there are no right or wrong ways to navigate the feelings and challenges that arise. Each person's journey is personal, and the lengths to which one must go to find peace and understanding can differ greatly. In a support group, this shared understanding can help bind individuals together, allowing them to explore their experiences and emotions in a safe space.

You may find that a particular 'word' or 'words' would be enough to set your mind spiralling back to those dark times, especially in the safe confines of a support group. In these spaces, deep conversations often trigger memories linked to specific venues or locations that evoke a sense of unease. Perhaps it’s the mention of a particular outfit you were wearing during those moments, or even the name of a professional who once supported you through your struggles. These connections can flood your thoughts and emotions, causing you to reflect deeply as you navigate through the shared experiences in the room. It's fascinating how something so simple can act as a gateway to reliving past challenges, yet in a supportive environment, it can also foster healing and understanding.
